Source Civil Ltd was appointed as the civil contractor by Mercury Engineering Ltd to construct a 16mW data center 20km south of Berlin. BER21 was the first of two data centers to be constructed on the Campus offering a total of 32Mw of critical IT load.

SUMMARY of the project

  • Source were appointed works contractor to complete all the civil and utility works for the construction of the BER21 Data Centre. BER21 consisted of a total floor area of 12,000m2 of space over a total of two floors with a total building height of 15 meters.
  • Source Civil commenced with the bulk earthworks excavation to reduce the levels to accommodate the installation of pile caps, ring beams and floor slab.
  • The reinforced concrete works included, 54no. pile caps, ring beams, floor slabs to an FM1 finish, roof slab, generator yard including 12 generator slabs, LV and MV Juise box bases, sprinkler tank foundations and dock leveller ramp.
  • A total of 400tn of Reinforcement and approx.. 5500m3 of concrete was installed on the project.
  • The utilities on the project consisted of foul pipework of between 110mm to 350mm, surface water pipework between 110mm to 600mm, HDPE potable water supply between 80mm to 150mm, 16 pre-cast chambers supplied and installed and a total of 9000meters of Telecom ducts, MV ducts and LV Ducts installed.
  • Source also completed all the roads and landscaping on site, including roads, kerbs, footpaths and paving.
  • All works were completed under strict deadlines with all targets met, completed on time and under budget.
